For integrally colored applications, Fenestra Old World Finish is recommended.

Packaging:
California One-Kote is packaged in 50 Lbs / 22.68 Kg bags.

Benefits:

  • California One-Kote is premixed, just water is required.

  • Provides a fast, easy and accurate mix for interior patch work.

  • May be applied to gypsum or metal lath bases.

  • Forty-five minute open time provides enough time to get small patches done right and have a fast turn around time for finish coat or paint.

  • Finish coat may be painted.

  • Can be troweled to a glass smooth surface.

Substrates:
California One-Kote may be applied over bonded gypsum wall board or metal lath.

Coverage:
California One-Kote will cover approximately 22 sq. ft. / 2.04 sq. meters at an applied thickness of 3/8” - over gypsum lath or wall board.  Coverage at ½” applied thickness over metal lath will be reduced by 50%.

Preparation:
Due to the quick setting characteristics of California One-Kote, the preparation of interior surfaces must be completed before mixing California One-Kote. Gypsum wallboards must be brought to a Level 3 Surface. Larsen’s Product Plaster-Weld (non-diluted) must be applied over the existing surface and shall be dried before the application of California One-Kote. Before applying Plaster-Weld, assure the surfaces are free of dust, dirt or other contaminants that may affect sealing and adhesion.

Mixing:
When mixing gypsum plasters, clean water and pails are critical to mixing success.  California One-Kote shall be mixed in a clean 5 Gal. pail with clean potable water. Add water to bring California One-Kote to a working consistency. Material shall be mixed for 2 to 3 minutes. Only mix enough material so that all the material mixed shall be used in 40 to 45 minutes at an ambient temperature of 70°F and a relative humidity of 40°F. Do not retemper. Do not exceed 3 minutes of mixing time per batch and the water quantities specified above. Thoroughly clean pail and drill mixer before mixing another batch.

Application:
Apply California One-Kote using a hawk and trowel.  Press firmly into place making sure to imbed the plaster into gypsum or metal lath bases. Do not apply more than ¾” in one pass.

If additional thickness is needed, leave the first coat with a rough surface.  Apply the second coat only when the first coat is sufficiently hard so as not to be damaged by the additional application of material.  Do not build the second coat to greater than ¼” in thickness.

  • California One-Kote may be feathered to a thin edge to blend patches.

  • California One-Kote will be workable for about 45 minutes.

  • When installing as base coat and finish coat, California One-Kote must be used in both applications.

  • California One-Kote characteristics are based on moderate humidity of 40°F and an ambient temperature of 70°F / 21°C.

Drying:
California One-Kote requires stable temperatures and ventilation during application and during the period of time required for the plaster to dry. The required temperature range for the application and drying of gypsum plaster shall be 55°F – 70°F / 12°C – 21°C.

Curing:
California One-Kote will cure naturally under normal conditions. Care shall be taken to protect finished areas from heat and wind. During cold temperatures, heaters may be used in combination with adequate ventilation and ambient humidity to allow normal curing to take place. Under normal conditions, California One-Kote is ready to receive finish plaster or paint in 24 hours.

Limitations:
Do not apply in rooms with high moisture conditions. Do not apply when surface or ambient temperatures are below 40°F / 4.4°C or above 100°F / 34°C. Do not apply to surfaces that are contaminated with bond breakers, oils, or other matter that may affect the performance of the product. Do not apply if conditions are expected to be above or below the specified temperature ranges within 24 hours of application. Do not add additional ingredients to California One-Kote without specific written approval from an authorized manufacturer of California One-Kote.
